Kenyan-born Sally Kimondo made history as the first Black Mayor of Dunstable, a town in the United Kingdom.
Dunstable Town Council confirmed her appointment on Monday, May 19, 2025.
“We are proud to announce a true historic milestone for our town. Cllr Sally Kimondo has officially been appointed as the first black mayor of Dunstable”, Dunstable town council announced.
The council further praised Kimondo as the perfect candidate for the role and being a visionary leader.

Among the roles she will play in her new seat will include raising money for local charities through events and fundraising, and also presiding over meetings of the Town Council while ensuring efficient and effective business.
The appointment comes almost a year after she was elected as the Dunstable East Councillor, where she won against three other candidates after getting 372 votes.
Kimondo is the daughter of former MP Starehe Constituency Hon. Kiruhi.
Despite being born in Kenya, she relocated to the United Kingdom at an early age and later graduated from the University of Bedfordshire with a degree in Social Work.
