Court Rejects Gloria Orwoba’s Bid to Block UDA Expulsion

The High Court has recently dismissed an application by nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba seeking to block her expulsion from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

In a brief ruling delivered on May 20, High Court Judge Lawrence Mugambi rejected Orwoba’s application on the grounds that it failed to comply with the rules of procedure.

Orwoba was on Monday, May 19, expelled from the UDA party, citing disloyalty and breach of the party’s constitutional values.

According to UDA Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar Hassan, the party’s Disciplinary Committee resolved to expel Orwoba following exhaustive deliberation on matters presented before it.

Omar highlighted that the expulsion was effective immediately and was ratified by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

The Secretary General also stated that Orwoba will no longer enjoy privileges accorded to party members and is barred from representing UDA in any capacity.

Omar moreover disclosed that UDA had written to the Speaker of the Senate to begin the formal process of removing Senator Orwoba from her seat.

Furthermore, the party notified the Registrar of Political Parties (RPP) and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of her expulsion.

In preparation for the vacancy, UDA announced the nomination of Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi from Kimilili Constituency, Bungoma County, to fill the Senate seat.
