Kenya and Saudi Arabia have signed a new labour agreement aimed at expanding employment opportunities for Kenyans.
This marks one of the key outcomes of Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi’s official visit to the Gulf nation.
The enhanced labour agreement was signed alongside several other bilateral deals as the two countries moved to deepen economic cooperation and strengthen diplomatic ties.
According to Mudavadi, the agreement is expected to create more employment opportunities for Kenyans seeking jobs in Saudi Arabia while supporting the country’s labour migration programme.
The labour deal was among several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed during the visit, which also covered investment promotion and cultural cooperation.
Kenya also signed a partnership between the Kenya Development Corporation (KDC) and the Saudi Export-Import (EXIM) Bank to promote exports, investment, and knowledge exchange.
Beyond labour, the two countries agreed to strengthen collaboration in agriculture, with Mudavadi visiting Almarai, one of the world’s largest dairy companies.
This is to explore opportunities for technology transfer and investment that could help modernise Kenya’s dairy sector and improve food security.
Furthermore in the energy sector, the Kenyan delegation held talks with Aramco Trading on enhancing energy security and exploring future collaboration.
