Kenya Police Officer Killed During Haiti Peacekeeping Mission

A Kenyan police officer serving in the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in Haiti died after sustaining injuries in an operation.

The news was confirmed by MSS Force Commander Geoffrey Otunge in a statement.

This appears to be the first death of a Kenya officer working as part of the MSS since the Kenyan officers were first deployed in Haiti.

According to reports, he died on Sunday February 23rd at Aspen Level-2 Facility.

“Today, Sunday, February 23rd, 2025, one of our MSS officers from the Kenyan contingent was injured during an operation in SEGUR- SAVIEN, in the Artibonite department. The officer was immediately airlifted to Aspen Level 2 Hospital but, unfortunately succumbed to injuries to the injuries” Otunge stated.

The Multi Security Support mission has been active since 2023 to assist the government of Haiti in restoring Law and Order.

The Kenyan’s first contingent of 400 elite police officers arrived in Haiti on 25th June 2024.

As of January 2025, over 500 personnel from Kenya, Jamaica, Belize, the Bahamas and El Salvador had been deployed to Haiti.
