The government has issued a statement on the ongoing protests in Kinshasa.
The statement was issued by Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei on Tuesday 28th January 2025.
The statement confirmed that there were attacks on Kenya, Uganda and South African embassies among others by protesters referred as ‘marauding protesters’.
We are deeply concerned by the ongoing siege and attacks on Embassy premises and personnel in Kinhasa, DRC including the Kenya, Uganda and South African embassies, by marauding protesters who are voicing their discontent on the conflict in the Eastern part of the country.
The foreign affairs PS said.

The incidences have been triggered by heavy gunfire as Rwanda-backed M23 rebels who took on central authorities in the region.
According to the UN, the escalating conflict has led to the displacement of more than 400,000 people which has spouted to the Rwandan border affecting civilian activities.
This development is a serious breach of international law, and we condemn it in the strongest terms possible. We call on authorities in DRC to take appropriate action. Kenya stands with DRC during this challenging time and will use all diplomatic means within its disposal to work with the rest of the region in search for peace.
Korir added he urged Kenyan citizens and businesspeople to exercise caution during this period.
Regarding the attacks, Prime Cabinet secretary Musalia Mudavadi revealed DRC government has confirmed that Kenya will be compensated for the damages on the embassy.
