KeNHA Issues Travel Warning as Floodwaters Hit Kitale–Morpus Road

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has cautioned of a traffic disruption along the Kitale–Morpus Road after a section of the route was cut off due to heavy rainfall.

In a statement, KeNHA said that the Chapareria–Morpus section has been severely affected, disrupting traffic flow between Chapareria and Sebit towards Lodwar.

The authority urged motorists to be vigilant when using the stretch and adhere to instructions that will be issued by police officers and traffic marshals who are on site.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that the Chapareria -Morpus section, approximately 1 km from Morpus along the Kitale – Morpus Road, has been cut off, rendering traffic flow between the Chapareria and Sebit sections towards Lodwar unsafe for motorable traffic,” the statement read.

Motorists using the route from Lodwar have therefore been encouraged to use the Marich Pass- Nakuru route as an alternative.

“KeNHA is currently working to restore passage in the affected area, and motorists are urged to exercise patience. The Authority appreciates your cooperation as it works to ensure the safety of all road users,” the statement added.

This comes a day after motorists were warned against using a section of the Eldama Ravine–Maji Mazuri–Molo Road due to flooding along the route.

The authorities issued an advisory to motorists to consider alternative routes, including Eldama Ravine–Mogotio–Salgaa–Nakuru, Eldama Ravine–Kabarnet–Marigat–Mogotio, and Nakuru–Salgaa–Ravine for those approaching from Nakuru.
