Motorists using Waiyaki Way are set to face traffic disruptions for the next three months, following the Kenya National Highways Authority’s (KeNHA) announcement of a partial closure of the road between Karuna Close and Westlands Roundabout.
According to the notice, the closure will affect the Nakuru-bound carriageway of the A8 highway, a key commuter route that carries thousands of vehicles into and out of Nairobi each day.
The restrictions will remain in force until September 25, 2026.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) notifies the public that a section of Waiyaki Way (A8) Road between Karuna Close and Westlands Roundabout on the Nakuru-bound carriageway will be partially closed from Thursday, June 25, 2026, to Friday, September 25, 2026,” the notice read.
According to the notice, the closure is in order to facilitate the construction works for the existing pedestrian footbridge at Dunhill Towers, a structure that serves foot traffic crossing the busy highway.
A brand new footbridge is set to be constructed between Fogo Gaucho restaurant and QuickMart Westlands, adding a second safe crossing point along the stretch.
“This closure is to allow for extension works on the existing pedestrian footbridge at Dunhill Towers and the construction of the proposed Fogo Gaucho – QuickMart Westlands Footbridge,” the authority added.
Additionally, the two footbridge projects are aimed at improving pedestrian safety along a section of road that has long been a hotspot for dangerous road crossings.
