The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a 30-day notice to traders and other unauthorised occupants to vacate the road reserve along the Ruiru–Githunguri–Uplands (B116) Road.
In a notice, the authority said all illegal roadside structures and goods must be removed by August 10, 2026.
According to reports, the notice forms part of an ongoing road safety programme aimed at improving traffic flow and paving the way for infrastructure development along the busy road corridor.
Reports indicate that the notice targets illegal roadside occupants, including traders operating within the road reserve and owners of unauthorised structures built along the route.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) hereby notifies all illegal roadside occupants, including traders and unauthorized structures along the Ruiru – Githunguri – Uplands (B116) Road, to remove their wares and vacate the road reserve within thirty (30) days from the date of this notice,” the notice stated.
Clearing the road reserve is expected to improve visibility for motorists, reduce safety risks and create space for planned infrastructure works.
The exercise is also intended to ensure traffic moves without unnecessary obstructions along the highway.
