KDF Unveils New Ammunition Production Line in Eldoret

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has begun construction of a new ammunition production line at the Kenya Ordnance Factories Corporation (KOFC) in Eldoret.

According to a statement released on Thursday, August 6, the project is part of a broader modernisation strategy.

The goal is to boost local manufacturing capacity, improve military readiness, and cut dependence on foreign suppliers.

The milestone was marked by the 73rd KOFC Board of Directors Meeting, chaired by Chief of the Defence Forces General Charles Kahariri. After the meeting, the General officiated a groundbreaking ceremony for the new production line at the Eldoret facility.

He was received by the corporation’s Managing Director, Major General George Okumu.

During the board meeting, directors assessed the corporation’s progress on its strategic goals and reviewed various projects aimed at upgrading its manufacturing systems to meet future operational needs.

The board highlighted the new production line as a key development.

It will work alongside ongoing refurbishment of the existing facility to significantly expand KOFC’s overall manufacturing capacity.

The modernisation programme is being rolled out in three phases.

The first phase is already underway, and the entire project is expected to be completed by the 2027/2028 Financial Year.

Once all phases are finished, the upgraded facilities are projected to increase ammunition production capacity by approximately 35 per cent.
