Junet Mohamed Dismisses Claims Politicians Knew Raila Odinga’s Vision

MP Junet Mohamed has dismissed claims by some politicians that they understood the vision of the late Raila Odinga for Kenya.

Speaking on Thursday, April 30, during the funeral of Davis Chirchir’s father, Edwin Koech, Junet maintained that only a close circle, including Ida Odinga and Oburu Oginga, truly understood Raila’s thinking.

He urged President Ruto to disregard remarks from leaders claiming deeper knowledge of Raila’s political agenda, describing such assertions as misleading.

Junet argued that his close working relationship with Raila positioned him to speak authoritatively on the former prime minister’s ideals and long-term vision for both the Orange Democratic Movement and the country.

He also reiterated that the current broad-based government reflects the political direction Raila supported, cautioning against distractions from critics.

Junet revealed that before the National Infrastructure Fund was tabled in the National Assembly, William Ruto had consulted the late Raila Odinga, who expressed support for the proposal.

The National Assembly Minority Leader said the former ODM leader had backed the initiative, indicating alignment on key development priorities.

Junet further assured the President that the Orange Democratic Movement intends to remain within the broad-based government framework, positioning itself to play a central role in shaping the next administration after the 2027 general elections.

He emphasized that the party’s strategy is to maintain influence within government rather than return to the opposition.

His remarks come amid internal tensions within ODM, with Senator Edwin Sifuna criticizing a section of party members associated with the Linda Ground faction for allegedly straying from Raila’s political direction.

Sifuna has consistently maintained that Raila envisioned ODM contesting the presidency in 2027 independently, rather than aligning itself with another political outfit.

He also argued that the former prime minister never endorsed any plan for the party to support Ruto’s re-election bid.
