IEBC also highlighted Sunkuli’s long-standing service within the institution, pointing out that he currently serves as the Director of Electoral Operations.
The commission expressed confidence that his extensive experience and deep understanding of its internal processes will support continuity in leadership during the transition period.
IEBC explained that the appointment is temporary as the recruitment process for a substantive CEO gets underway.
The appointment comes just a day after the IEBC confirmed the departure of former CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, February 3, the commission explained that Marjan’s exit was not sudden but followed a mutual agreement to terminate his services.
IEBC noted that the process of recruiting a substantive replacement is already underway.
The commission also assured the public that an acting official would be appointed to ensure continuity of operations and prevent disruptions to key constitutional responsibilities, including the conduct of elections and boundary delimitation.
IEBC further linked Marjan’s departure to ongoing restructuring efforts within the Secretariat, aimed at enhancing efficiency, accountability, and institutional preparedness.
