Harambee Starlets Ready for Exciting Friendlies in Preparation for WAFCON

Harambee Starlets

For the past few weeks, the Harambee Starlets have been hard at work in training as they prepare for two crucial friendlies in Côte d’Ivoire this March.

The matches against Benin and the hosts Ivory Coast, will serve as vital preparation ahead of the Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON), scheduled from March 17 to April 3, 2026.

Although the Starlets will not play any friendlies at home, this could prove beneficial as it prepares them for the challenging atmosphere in Morocco. There, they will face the hosts, Senegal, and Algeria, who are expected to enjoy stronger fan support.

Travel distances will be shorter for neighbouring countries, making it easier for their supporters to attend. However, the team hopes Kenyan fans and international supporters will also turn up to cheer them on.

Several players shared their thoughts with the Football Kenya Federation, expressing confidence in the team’s ability to go far in the tournament.

Eglay Mukhwana, receiving her first national team call-up, said she felt welcomed and at home among her teammates.

She emphasized that the squad’s main target, set by coach Beldine Odemba, is reaching the semi-finals, a goal she believes is achievable with their current form in training.

“The mood is good and I feel at home. Our aim is the semi-final, just as the coach said, and I believe we will achieve that,” Eglay stated.

Meanwhile, Ruth Ingosi, a dependable figure in the Starlets lineup, praised the quality of training and highlighted the team’s strong morale.

She noted that despite the presence of many newcomers, the overall target remains unchanged, and she trusts her teammates to deliver.

The Starlets will carry the hopes of the nation as they aim to fly the Kenyan flag high in Morocco. The tournament will not only be crucial for continental success but also for individual ambitions, as scouts from major clubs will closely watch the competition.
