Harambee Starlets head coach Beldine Odemba has named a 34‑player provisional squad as Kenya begins preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The training camp officially opens on February 15, setting the stage for the continental tournament scheduled from March 17 to April 3, 2026.
Odemba’s selection reflects a balance of experience and youth. Ten players from the recent local mini‑camp have been retained, while eight Rising Starlets graduates step into the senior team.
The coach emphasized the importance of continuity, noting that integrating U20 players builds depth and strengthens Kenya’s long‑term competitiveness.
Experience Meets New Talent
Among the notable inclusions are forwards Jentrix Shikangwa and Lorna Nyarinda, both returning to the squad. Trinity Starlets striker Eglay Mukhwana earns her first call‑up after impressive club performances.
Odemba explained that blending seasoned players with emerging talent is key to ensuring Harambee Starlets remain competitive at WAFCON.
The camp will also serve as a testing ground during the FIFA international window, with friendly matches being considered. Kenya’s return to the continental stage, ten years after their debut in 2016, makes this preparation phase crucial.
