Gor Mahia to pocket KSh 15 million after winning their 22nd Premier League title

Gor Mahia are set to receive KSh15 million after being crowned the new Kenyan Premier League champions following the conclusion of the 2025/2026 season.

Gor Mahia secured their 22nd league title after closest challengers A.F.C. Leopards suffered a crucial defeat against APS Bomet allowing K’Ogalo to win the title mathematically before playing their second final match.

AFC Leopards’ loss ended their hopes of winning their first league title in more than two decades despite mounting one of their strongest title challenges in recent years.

The defeat left Gor Mahia unreachable at the top of the table with a points advantage over second placed AFC Leopards heading into the final round of fixtures.

According to league organisers, Gor Mahia will pocket KSh15 million for winning the title while second placed AFC Leopards are expected to receive KSh3 million. The team that finishes third either Kenya Police FC or Shabana F.C. will take home KSh2 million.

The prize money marks one of the highest financial rewards in recent years for Kenyan Premier League clubs and is expected to boost competition among teams in the local league.

The cash rewards are part of the sponsorship package supported through the Football Kenya Federation in partnership with sportpesa which returned as league sponsors earlier this season.

FKF officials confirmed that the federation will oversee distribution of the prize money under the current sponsorship agreement aimed at improving the competitiveness and professionalism of the league.

Compared to previous seasons, the KSh15 million reward represents a significant increase in prize money for league champions. In recent years league winners received lower amounts due to sponsorship and financial challenges affecting the local competition.

Football analysts have linked the improved prize structure to the return of major sponsorship support in the league which has helped stabilise club finances and increase interest in Kenyan football.

Gor Mahia’s title victory was largely attributed to consistency throughout the season with the club managing crucial wins during the second half of the campaign while their closest rivals dropped important points.

AFC Leopards had come close to winning their first league title in decades after maintaining pressure on Gor Mahia for most parts of the season. However inconsistent performances in crucial matches towards the end of the campaign affected their title ambitions.

Gor Mahia fans celebrated across different parts of the country after winning another league title with supporters praising the players and technical bench for maintaining dominance in Kenyan football.
