Gladys Shollei to Clergy: “Criticize President Ruto Privately, Not Publicly”

Uasin Gishu women representative, Gladys Shollei has urged Catholic bishops to engage with the Government privately.

This was in regard that the clergy had called for a press conference and stated that the Government was not doing its job to protect its citizen amid the increase in abductions, disappearances and killings.

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament said that if the clergy felt that some things were going wrong, they could have sought the audience of the Members of Parliament and tell them the direction that they should go and pray for them.

She added that the bishops of every denomination in Kenya can create an audience with the Head of State because the head of State has leaned on the church for all his life.

So, if they really want to support him and pray for him, if they ask for an appointment at State House today, the bishops will get an appointment ahead of me and they can get an audience with the President whenever they seek it. They could have called the President aside and tell him what they believe is going wrong and advise him on what they think should be corrected.

Gladys Shollei said.

She further said that they could have also prayed for him to correct whatever the think is going wrong rather than criticizing him in public.

The women representative said that she felt the church should be saying that the challenges of femicide has been brought by this and this and advise them like she does with women and advise them not to go on a date in private places.

Her worries added when she felt that the bishops were preaching doom.
