Gachagua Warns Winnie, Raila Junior Over Party Choices

Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has cautioned Raila Odinga Junior and Winnie Odinga against seeking elective positions through political parties associated with President William Ruto.

Speaking on Wednesday, October 28, the former Deputy President said Raila Junior had an opportunity to contest the Kibra parliamentary seat but questioned his chances if he ran on a ticket linked to Ruto.

Gachagua also weighed in on Winnie’s political ambitions, stating that she could pursue the Nairobi senatorial seat through DCP, Wiper or Linda Mwananchi rather than a political arrangement involving Ruto and ODM leader Oburu Oginga.

The DCP leader further predicted that an alliance bringing together Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and himself would secure all 17 elective seats in Nairobi County in the 2027 General Election.

His remarks come as political leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 polls, with several prospective candidates declaring their intentions to contest various seats.

On October 15, Winnie announced that she would seek the Nairobi senatorial seat in the upcoming election.

The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP linked her decision to developments surrounding incumbent Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, citing his reported ambitions for a higher political office as an opportunity to enter the race.

Meanwhile, Raila Junior has declared his intention to contest the Kibra parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.

Gachagua’s remarks add to the ongoing political debate over possible party affiliations and alliances ahead of the next electoral contest.
