Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to spearhead the opposition’s campaigns in the Nyanza region, citing his long-standing political ties with residents through his years of supporting former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Speaking on Thursday, August 6, Gachagua said Kalonzo spent more than 15 years working alongside Raila, giving him the goodwill and familiarity needed to help the united opposition expand its influence in the region.
He encouraged the former vice president to capitalize on those relationships by touring Nyanza and mobilizing support for the opposition coalition.

“I was telling Kalonzo Musyoka yesterday that he supported Raila Odinga and the people of Nyanza for a long time. For 15 years, you stood with them, and they know you. Help us to make inroads in Nyanza. Kalonzo should now tour the region and help consolidate our support there,” Gachagua noted.
Gachagua also commended Jubilee Deputy Party leader Fred Matiang’i for his recent political engagements in Kuria, Migori County, saying the former Interior Cabinet Secretary should build on that momentum by strengthening support in Kisii before extending his outreach to neighbouring Homa Bay and other parts of Migori County.
According to Gachagua, every opposition leader should focus on regions where they command significant political influence to maximize the coalition’s support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He said he would concentrate on consolidating backing in the Mt Kenya region, Nairobi and parts of the South Rift, including the Maasai and Kipsigis communities, where he believes he has the greatest ability to mobilize voters for the united opposition.
