Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has rejected claims by Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba that she is being pressured to join the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
Gachagua explained that any pressure Wamuchomba is experiencing comes from her constituents rather than from him.
He added that residents of Githunguri are encouraging her to align with the DCP if she intends to seek re-election in the 2027 general election.

Gachagua further distanced himself from accusations of intimidation, saying his role is limited to setting the political tone in Mt Kenya and not pressuring individual politicians.
He clarified that any pressure Wamuchomba is facing comes from her constituents, not from him.
The comments follow allegations by Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba that Gachagua has used threats and insults to push her into joining the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
She said similar tactics were reportedly used against her during Gachagua’s tenure as Deputy President, including during the Finance Bill 2023 debate.
Wamuchomba also questioned Gachagua’s leadership claims within the DCP, noting that official records do not list him as a registered party official.
She further accused Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa of being used to pressure leaders who have chosen not to associate with DCP while still holding UDA positions.
The MP challenged DCP-affiliated leaders to resign from their current positions and seek fresh mandates through the party if they believe in its strength.
She reaffirmed her loyalty to UDA and stated that she has no intention of defecting before the 2027 general election.
