Fire Breaks Out at Ofafa Jericho High School

A fire broke out at Ofafa Jericho High School on Saturday, June 20, destroying students’ property after one of the school’s dormitories was engulfed by flames.

The incident occurred at around 5:00 p.m., sparking panic among parents and guardians, some of whom rushed to the school and gathered at the gate seeking information about the safety of their children.

School administrators, however, assured parents that all students had been safely evacuated and that every learner had been accounted for.

No injuries or fatalities were reported during the incident.

The school management further indicated that contingency measures had been put in place to ensure that students displaced by the fire would be accommodated in alternative sleeping arrangements, allowing learning and other school activities to continue with minimal disruption.

Preliminary assessments showed that the fire destroyed personal belongings belonging to the students housed in the affected dormitory.

The blaze impacted 122 learners who had been accommodated in the dormitory known as Kifaru, leaving them without essentials such as clothing, bedding, books and other personal effects.

Authorities have since launched investigations to determine the cause of the fire, while school officials continue assessing the extent of the damage and coordinating support for the affected students.

The incident adds to a series of school fire cases reported across the country in recent years, prompting renewed concerns over safety measures in learning institutions.
