Fenerbahçe Coach Jose Mourinho on the Road

Fenerbahce coach José Mourinho has not confirmed whether he will stay with the team next season following Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Besiktas.

This loss leaves Fenerbahce in second place in the standings, eight points behind Super Lig leaders Galatasaray, with only four games remaining.

Mourinho joined Fenerbahce on a two-year contract last summer, aiming to lead the club to its first league title in a decade. After the match, he stated;

“I’m not speaking about next season. These are matters to discuss internally and not with the media. If there’s one thing I’ve been absolutely perfect at, it is showing respect towards my president and my board by keeping internal matters out of the public eye.”

He also declined to comment on Galatasaray, who are on track to win their third consecutive league title. When asked about them, he replied;

“I don’t speak about them. I focus on the championship, and I’ve done that throughout the season.”

Mourinho has previously expressed concerns about the “toxic” environment in the Super Lig, claiming that Fenerbahce’s top rivals receive preferential treatment from referees.

He remarked, “I don’t change a single word about what I’ve said throughout the season. One of the problems that Fenerbahce has is coping mentally with the power of the system, which is stronger than quality. It’s a powerful influence. The players feel it, and they know it’s almost impossible to achieve what they want.”
