In a statement released onMay 5, the detectives informed the public that they had established financial proceeds seemingly used to facilitate MP’s killing on Wednesday, April 30.

However the detectives did not disclose details about the make of the vehicle used.

Earlier while confirming the arrests, the National Police Service  linked Were’s murder to an Eastlands-based gang.

According to NPS, some of the arrested suspects are members of the notorious Mjahidin gang, an organised criminal group linked to a series of armed robberies in Nairobi’s Eastlands area.

The late MP Were was shot on April 30, at a traffic light on Ngong Road near the City Mortuary roundabout and was pronounced dead after he was rushed to Nairobi Hospital.

CCTV footage revealed that Were left the parliament buildings at around 7 p.m. on Wednesday and was accompanied by his driver and bodyguard.

The car was later then stopped briefly in Wabera street and his bodyguard alighted, walked into an M-Pesa shop and deposited Ksh20,000 into the MP’s phone.

Security cameras captured a hooded man carrying a bag and monitoring the Kasipul MP’s vehicle.

The MP and his team left Wabera Street at around 7:19 and headed towards Kenyatta Avenue before the driver changed route and joined Ralph Bunche Road to avoid traffic before joining Argwings Kodhek Road.

Were was then caught in a traffic snarl-up along Valley road, with the suspect who was seen monitoring them in Wabera street trailing them again on a sports bike.

The suspect then disembarked from the bike, walked up to the car, and fired four shots at close range before sprinting away from the scene.
