Former Chief Justice David Maraga has officially announced that he will run for president in the 2027 general election.
Speaking during an interview on NTV, Maraga confirmed his decision to run for the country’s top office.
“After discussion with friends and after serious reflection, I thought it was time we thought about the leadership of this country. We can not let some people take our country to doomsday literally. As a result of that reflection, I have made up my mind that I will run for the presidency of this country in 2027,” Maraga announced.

He went on to state that he believes he is the Gen Z candidate.
“I am the Gen Z Presidential candidate. I have children, and many people have children.”
Notably, lawyer Nelson Havi months ago declared his support for the former Chief Justice to run for the presidency.
In an interview on Thursday, February 11, Havi said he would not be renewing his political allegiance with President William Ruto as their “contract” comes to an end after five years.
He went on to endorse Maraga, who served as Kenya’s Chief Justice from 2016 to 2021, for the country’s top seat.
“My contract with William Ruto was for five years, and as the five years come to an end, I do not propose to renew it. I have said we need to have David Maraga as the next President of the Republic of Kenya, and I say this forthrightly, and nobody will fault me, nobody has insurance on me, they know it. I speak the truth and for the good of the people of Kenya. Let us do the right thing,” he said.
