The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has recovered public land valued at Ksh40 million in Kakamega County.
This includes three government houses, following a court agreement that paved the way for the property to be returned to the State.
The commission confirmed on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, that the property, measuring approximately 1.05 acres, is located in the Milimani area of Kakamega Town, next to the Kakamega State Lodge.
According to EACC, the land belongs to the State Department for Housing and Urban Development but had been allocated to a private individual despite being reserved for government housing.
The recovery followed a consent agreement adopted by Environment and Land Court Justice Annet Nyukuri on September 22, in which the registered owner agreed to surrender his interest in the property.
The court also directed the Chief Land Registrar to rectify the land register by cancelling entries relating to the lease issued to the individual, effectively paving the way for the government to reclaim ownership.
βThe Commission is pursuing the cancellation of the unlawfully acquired title and the transfer and registration of the property in favour of the Government,β EACC stated.
The commission further explained that investigations established that the land had already been reserved and developed for government housing before it was allocated to a private individual through a letter of allotment issued on December 10, 1992.
