The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers have disclosed that they arrested activist Boniface Mwangi over allegations of facilitating terrorism-like acts in recent protests.
The activist was picked up at his home in Machakos County on Saturday evening, July 19.
DCI had initially suggested taking him to the DCI headquarters but backed down on that plan.

They instead drove with him to Pangani Police Station, where he is currently being processed, awaiting arraignment on Monday, July 21.
In an update a day after the arrest, the DCI explained that Mwangi was being investigated over facilitation of terrorist activities during the June 25, 2025, protests.
The officers seized two mobile phones, a laptop, and several notebooks from his home.
Mwangi is expected to face charges related to facilitation of terrorist acts and unlawful possession of ammunition.
Mwangi’s arrest has since sparked uproar, with many criticizing the government for suppressing human rights defenders.
