The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended three suspects linked to violent robberies targeting shops in Nairobi and Kiambu counties.
In a statement, the detectives on Friday, February 20, 2026, DCI revealed that the arrests followed a surge in armed attacks in which traders were robbed of cash, and some left with serious injuries or even dead.
The arrest followed a coordinated operation led by officers from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) and the Operations Directorate at DCI Headquarters.
According to the DCI, the two suspects believed to be the ring leaders were arrested at their hideouts in Ruiru and Juja, while the third suspect was nabbed in Nakuru.
“The gang, armed with crude weapons, had been terrorising traders, stealing cash and stock, and in some cases leaving behind a trail of destruction and tragedy,” the DCI stated.
During the operation, the detectives recovered three vehicles, a black Toyota Voxy, a white Toyota Voxy and a sky-blue Toyota Raum.
They also recovered shop-breaking tools believed to have been used to force entry into premises and sisal ropes suspected to have been used to restrain watchmen during the incidents.
The suspects are currently in custody pending investigations and arraignment in court.
“The DCI remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all Kenyans to conduct their businesses without fear,” the DCI added.
