A man suspected of impersonating a member of the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) was apprehended at Son Green Stadium.
In a statement by Directorate of Criminal Investiagations (DCI), this was after he was found in possession of a firearm during a football match in Migori County.
According to the authority, the man was found in possession of a loaded pistol with 10 rounds of ammunition.
DCI arrested the man after he attempted to enter the VIP section while the game between Migori Youth FC and Equity Bank FC was underway.
“Law enforcement officers in Migori have arrested a man found in illegal possession of a CZ pistol during a football showdown between Migori Youth FC and Equity Bank FC at Sony Green Stadium in Awendo,” the statement from the DCI read.
Before his arrest, the suspect was reportedly seen trying to force his way into the dias reserved for dignitaries and other important people who attended the football match.
When security personnel moved to restrain him, he allegedly pulled out a firearm, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement officers stationed at the venue.
Officers swiftly disarmed the suspect and restored order before the situation escalated.
A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a CZ pistol loaded with ten rounds of ammunition.
Investigators further established that he was allegedly masquerading as a KDF officer at the time of the incident.
The authority later revealed that the firearm in question belonged to a civilian licensed firearm holder who later admitted to having handed the weapon to the suspect.
The firearm holder was also arrested for allegedly allowing an unauthorised person to possess a firearm.
Bth suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue awaiting arraignment in court.
