Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has denied claims of a secret deal with State House, amid growing pressure from Western Kenya leaders to dissolve his party and back President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election.
On Sunday, January 4, Wamalwa used social media to reaffirm that his party remains independent, rejecting rumors of clandestine talks with the government.
The controversy intensified during the burial of former Likuyani MP Enock Kibunguchy on January 3, when Western leaders publicly accused him of undermining regional unity despite his calls for togetherness.

Cooperatives and MSMEs Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya publicly questioned Wamalwa’s political position, challenging why he continues to hold on to his party while advocating for regional unity.
The pressure has coincided with what DAP-K describes as a disinformation campaign, including a fake letter circulating on social media claiming that Wamalwa had been expelled and replaced by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.
The party quickly dismissed the document, confirming its leadership structure remains unchanged.
Governor Natembeya accused pro-government UDA politicians of circulating the letter to create confusion ahead of the Malava parliamentary by-election.
Despite the push from Western Kenya leaders to rally behind President Ruto, Wamalwa has stood firm on maintaining DAP-K’s independence, presenting himself as a bulwark against the alleged widespread buying of political parties and leaders.
