CUE Questions Kituyi Over Reported Fake Degrees at Masinde Muliro University

The Commission for University Education (CUE) has summoned former Trade Minister Mukhisa Kituyi over allegations linked of fake degrees at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).

In a statement, the Commission said it is investigating claims made by Kituyi during an interview at a local radio station on March 31, 2026.

The remarks reportedly questioned the integrity of academic programmes and qualifications at MMUST, sparking concern that triggered investigations by the Commission.

According to Kituyi, the names of individuals who were never admitted to the university appeared on the graduation list.

“My nephew was graduating from a public university, and he saw names of graduates who had never been to that university being marked to be on the roll for graduation,” the former CS said.

“I can demonstrate to anybody who cares to listen that the graduating class two years ago at Masinde Muliro University had names of persons who had never been admitted to the university,” he added.

In response to the matter, CUE revealed that it had initiated investigations and attempted to reach Kituyi through official communication sent on April 9.

However, the Commission is yet to receive any response from the former minister.

The commission has now summoned Kituyi to appear in person at its offices located in Gigiri, Kiambu County, between April 20 and April 24, 2026.

“Therefore, the Commission hereby uses this public forum to invite Mukhisa Kituyi to come to the Commission for University offices between Monday, April 20 and Friday, April 24, 2026”

The Ex-Cs is now expected provide further clarification or submit any supporting evidence related to the allegations he made.
