CS Murkomen Bans Loitering Near Polling Stations After Voting

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has stated that no one will be allowed to remain around polling stations after voting during the Thursday, November 27, by-elections.

Speaking on Wednesday, November 26, in Kasipul, Homa Bay County, Murkomen urged voters to leave immediately after casting their ballots.

He emphasized that loitering around polling or tallying centres, whether to protect votes or campaign, will not be permitted, and that citizens should await election results from home.

Murkomen also warned that security agencies will be closely monitoring all polling areas to ensure compliance, and any individuals found violating the rules will face appropriate action.

The measures are part of efforts to maintain peace and order during the by-elections.

Murkomen further cautioned individuals planning to bring goons to polling stations, noting that they will face the full wrath of the law.

The remarks follow a warning from the National Police Service (NPS) to politicians against making provocative statements ahead of Thursday’s by-elections.

NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga urged politicians to avoid comments that could be seen as threatening, defamatory, or undermining public confidence in state institutions.

He also called on them to respect and cooperate with electoral officials during the polls.
