CS Mbadi Claims Internal Polls Show Ruto Has Stronger Gen Z Support

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has claimed that President William Ruto enjoys greater support among Generation Z than older Kenyans, citing internal opinion polls conducted every two weeks.

Speaking during an interview, Mbadi maintained that the regular surveys indicate that Ruto has considerable backing among young people.

The Treasury CS also dismissed the significance of large crowds attending Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi rallies, arguing that rally attendance does not necessarily translate into votes during elections.

To support his argument, Mbadi cited former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu’s 1997 presidential campaign, recalling the large crowds she attracted at Uhuru Park despite finishing fifth in that year’s presidential election.

Mbadi used the example to emphasise the difference between attracting supporters to political rallies and securing votes at the ballot.

The Cabinet Secretary further predicted that Sifuna would suffer a significant defeat if he contested the presidency in the 2027 General Election.

Although Mbadi acknowledged Sifuna’s intelligence, he expressed doubt that the Nairobi senator would ultimately enter the presidential race, maintaining that he would lose if he chose to run.

His remarks come amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 polls, with Sifuna drawing attention through the Linda Mwananchi rallies and his growing role in opposition politics.
