Two suspects were found guilty for vandalising Kenya Power and Lighting Company(KPLC) transformers and stealing energy equipment.
According to reports by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the duo appeared before the Butali Law Court where they were found guilty of the charges.
As a result each were sentenced to eleven(11) years imprisonment.
“Yesterday, February 23, 2026, the Butali Law Court found the two guilty of the charges, acknowledging that the case had been proven beyond reasonable doubt thus, sentencing each to eleven(11) years imprisonment”, part of the statement read.
Reports indicate that the two were apprehended after a series of transformer vandalism.
” Swahili and Ernest Kemboi who had notoriously darkened parts of the North Rift and Western regions with a series of transformers vandalism were cornered in Elgeyo Marakwet on July 15, 2025 by detectives attached to KPLC. They were subsequently arrested and processed for arraignment”, the statement added.
According to the DCI, the sentencing is a vital milestone in efforts to stop vandalism of critical national installations across the country.
