The government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving transport infrastructure across the country, citing the ongoing construction of the Dhogoye Bridge in Usenge, Siaya County, as a key project expected to boost connectivity and regional trade.
In a statement on Friday, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said the bridge, which is being implemented by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), will restore a critical transport link between Siaya and Busia counties once completed.
According to the PS, the project is part of the government’s broader investment in strategic infrastructure aimed at enhancing the movement of people and goods while supporting economic growth.

For years, residents living along the Bondo–Usenge–Osieko corridor have faced frequent disruptions after rising waters from Lake Victoria repeatedly submerged the existing crossing point. The flooding often cut off access to markets, schools, health facilities and other essential services.
Omollo noted that although construction of the bridge began in 2021, the project stalled for an extended period before being revived. He said work has progressed steadily over the past four months following the resumption of construction.
Once completed, the Dhogoye Bridge is expected to provide an all-weather crossing, improve access between Siaya and Busia counties, facilitate regional trade and strengthen social and economic integration among communities around the Lake Victoria basin.
The Interior PS further said the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration has played a key role in ensuring the project remains on course by coordinating government agencies, local leaders and surrounding communities.

He noted that the collaboration has helped resolve operational challenges, creating an enabling environment for the uninterrupted implementation of the long-awaited infrastructure project.
The government has maintained that investments in road and bridge infrastructure are critical to improving transport networks, opening up economic opportunities and accelerating development in different parts of the country.
