Como Make Champions League History with Stunning 9-1 Demolition of Lens

Como produced one of the most remarkable performances in UEFA Champions League history after thrashing French side Lens 9-1 on Wednesday night, November 4, to equal the competition’s biggest winning margin.

The Italian side dominated the encounter at Stade Bollaert-Delelis, with striker Anastasios Douvikas leading the attack through a hat-trick.

Nico Paz also scored in the first half as Como went into the break with a commanding advantage.

Como continued their dominance after the interval, with Lucas da Cunha, Marc-Oliver Kempf and Mattia Liberali among the players who found the net.

Douvikas completed his hat-trick, while Martin Baturina and Matteo Papaccioli added further goals.

Lens managed a consolation through Ruben Aguilar, but the goal did little to change the outcome as Como continued to attack and punish the home side’s defensive weaknesses.

The nine-goal victory equalled the biggest winning margin in Champions League history, matching the eight-goal victories previously recorded by Liverpool against Besiktas and Real Madrid against Malmo

Como also became only the second club to score nine goals in a Champions League match after Bayern Munich.

The result further underlined Como’s impressive progress in their debut Champions League campaign under manager Cesc Fabregas, with the Italian club moving into fourth place in the league-phase standings on nine points.
