The Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) has cautioned members of the public against using mobile phones that have not been approved in the country.
In a notice on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, CAK raised alarm over the growing presence of non-approved mobile phones in Kenya.
The authority therefore revealed that all devices sold and used in the country must undergo a Type A approval process to ensure they meet national and international standards on safety, health and electromagnetic compatibility.
“Through market surveillance, the Authority has noted an influx of Non-Type Approved mobile phones, which pose a safety and health risk to the users. The Authority therefore advises the public not to buy the above non-type-approved brands of mobile phones, and vendors are strictly prohibited from selling the same,” the authority stated.
CAK further warned that vendors found selling the non-approved phones risk law enforcement.
The authority warned Kenyans to verify the phones first before purchasing and using them.
