A new Chinese AI app DeepSeek has shaken the Technology industry in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The new AI app was the most downloaded free app on Apple’s US store over the weekend and triggered a massive sell-off by Monday 27th January 2025 which outpaced its American rivals.
DeepSeek was launched just weeks ago and has already surpassed ChatGPT as the most downloaded app in the US.
According to analysts, this new AI app could reshape the competitive Dynamics of AI development.
About DeepSeek: Behind its rising
DeepSeek was founded in 2023 by Liang Wenfeng in the Eastern Chinese City of Hangzou.
It’s available both in app and desktop.
Among the things DeepSeek can do include writing song lyrics, help work on a personal development plan or even write a recipe for dinner based on what’s in the fridge.
Others include communicating in multiple languages, write complex codes and solving difficult sums.
According to reports, the papers that detailed its development showed that the model was trained using only a fraction of those chips used by its Western competitors.
When asked about the amount of money they spent on developing the app, the firm said they had only spent 6 million compared to their competitors US tech giants who spent billions building their AI models.
DeepSeek now can become one of the biggest AI models in the technology industry.
