Barcelona reclaimed the top spot in La Liga with a comfortable 4-0 victory over 10-man Real Sociedad.
Atletico Madrid had temporarily taken the lead in the table following their 1-0 win over Athletic Club on Saturday, surpassing both Real Madrid and Barcelona. However, Barcelona quickly restored their one-point advantage and extended their winning streak to six games with goals from Gerard Martin, Marc Casado, Ronald Araujo, and Robert Lewandowski.
Real Sociedad’s defender Aritz Elustondo received a straight red card in the 17th minute for bringing down a goal-bound Dani Olmo, leaving his team with ten men.
Barcelona capitalized on their numerical advantage just eight minutes later. Lamine Yamal lost his marker in the box and combined with Olmo to set up full-back Martin, who finished at the back post.
Four minutes later, Olmo was involved again when his strike from the edge of the box deflected off Casado and into the net. This marked the first goal for both Martin and Casado with Barcelona.
The hosts didn’t have to wait long for their third goal. Just 60 seconds after Pedri hit the woodwork with a curling long-range effort, Araujo scored with a header from an inswinging corner delivered by Raphinha.
Poland striker Lewandowski sealed the rout in the 60th minute, extending the lead by redirecting Araujo’s shot beyond a helpless Alex Remiro in the visiting goal.
