Kenyan musician and entrepreneur Esther Akoth Kokeye, alias Akothee, revealed the emotional struggles of co-parenting and single motherhood.
Speaking during an interview at a local station, on April 9, 2026, Akothee described herself as a woman who carried the weight of raising her children largely alone, while navigating betrayal, poverty, and desperation.
“The journey of single mother or co-parenting is suicidal. You are dealing with somebody who came with expectations in this relationship that never worked. They can never forgive you,” she said.

According to the musician, involving her children’s father in her life has made her have a change of heart regarding the advice she previously gave to single mothers.
“I will allow me to ask single mothers whom I have ever advised to allow them access to their children, Kindly do what you think is good for you, because you are the one who knows the father of your children, how far they can go, how deep they can go,” she added.
According to the mother of five, what broke her the most was watching her daughters, whom she had nurtured from girls into women, now being broken by the very man who had abandoned them.
However, Akothee made clear that her daughter’s father lost his place in her life long ago, having walked out when her children were still toddlers.
