What was seen as a verbal exchange quickly escalated, with teammates forced to intervene before thee situation worsened.

The Nigerian Football Federation has yet to issue an official statement, but the incident has raised concerns about unity within the squad. With the quarter-finals looming, coach Éric Chelle will need to restore harmony quickly.

Egypt’s Narrow Escape

While Nigeria’s drama unfolded off the pitch, Egypt endured a tense battle on it. Their round of 16 clash stretched into extra time after a cagey 90 minutes, with the Pharaohs struggling to break down a resilient defense.

Mohamed Salah, their talisman, eventually goal in the final minutes of the game against Benin in extra time, after the pharaohs had scored a second in the 97th minute of the game, a wonderful header by Marwan Attia.
