Tenwek High School has dismissed social media claims alleging that its students painted themselves in UDA party colours during the school’s 2026 Prize Giving and Speech Day.
In a statement issued on Saturday, July 18, the school described the claims as false and misleading, maintaining that all students attended the event in their official school uniforms, except those participating in the school band.
The school explained that the prize-giving ceremony was a community event that was open to members of the public, adding that some attendees entered the venue without official invitations or clearance.

It maintained that the allegations circulating online did not reflect what transpired during the event.
The statement came after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen attended the function, where he praised Tenwek High School for its contribution to nurturing leadership, discipline and academic excellence.
Murkomen also presented a school bus on behalf of President William Ruto and said his address to students focused on the importance of discipline in achieving academic success and future life goals.
The event was also attended by Basic Education Principal Secretary John Ololtuaa, Environment and Climate Change Principal Secretary Festus Ng’eno, Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei, Members of Parliament Linet Chepkorir, Richard Kilel and Joyce Korir, former legislators Wilson Sossion, Bernard Bett and Nick Salat, Members of County Assembly, as well as senior county security officials led by Bomet County Commissioner Caroline Nzwili and County Administration Police Commander Damaris Wambugu.
