Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has challenged former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to formally report his claims that 68 women were raped during the Ol Kalou by-election.
Speaking in Bomet County on Saturday, July 19, 2026, Murkomen said the allegations should be reported to the nearest police station to allow investigations and ensure that anyone found responsible is arrested and prosecuted.
The Interior CS said the government would not tolerate sexual violence and stressed that such claims should be backed by formal complaints to enable the authorities to act.

However, he warned that if the allegations were false and intended for political gain, Gachagua would have done a disservice by using serious claims involving alleged victims of sexual violence.
Murkomen’s remarks came a day after Gachagua alleged that 68 women were raped by police officers during the Ol Kalou by-election.
The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader claimed the alleged victims had not reported the incidents to the police because they accused police officers of being the perpetrators.
Gachagua also alleged that one person was killed and 20 others were injured during the unrest that accompanied the by-election.
