Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital has dismissed allegations circulating on social media that a patient lost a kidney while receiving treatment at the facility.
In a statement issued on Saturday, July 18, the hospital said it had reviewed the relevant medical records and found no evidence to support the claims being shared online.
The hospital explained that the patient at the centre of the allegations had been referred from another health facility for further treatment and management.

It maintained that its review of the available records did not substantiate the accusations being circulated publicly.
The hospital also said it was unable to publicly respond to the specific claims or disclose details about the patient’s treatment because it is bound by ethical, professional and legal obligations to protect patient confidentiality.
It noted that the duty to safeguard confidential medical information remains in force regardless of whether aspects of a patient’s medical history have already been disclosed by the patient or any other person.
Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital further confirmed that the matter has been referred to the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC), the statutory body responsible for investigating such complaints.
The hospital said it has already submitted its response to the council and will continue cooperating fully with the ongoing review process.
