Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has warned Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua against what he described as involvement in political violence, saying the government would closely monitor his activities ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during an economic empowerment event in Elgeyo Marakwet County on Saturday, July 4, Murkomen accused the former deputy president of using violence as a political tool and alleged that he was sponsoring criminal gangs to intimidate political rivals and businesses.
The Cabinet Secretary said security agencies would keep a close watch on Gachagua’s movements and activities to prevent any incidents that could threaten peace and security before the 2027 polls.

Murkomen further alleged that Gachagua had been intimidating business owners who declined to support his political activities financially and using criminal gangs to harass them. However, he did not provide evidence to support the claims.
He warned that the government would not allow anyone to incite violence or undermine public order, adding that any action taken against Gachagua or any other individual would be carried out strictly within the law.
The remarks come amid heightened political tensions as leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election, with accusations and counter-accusations increasingly dominating the political landscape.
Gachagua had not publicly responded to Murkomen’s remarks by the time of publication.
