Activist Davis Lichuma has been found alive days after he went missing following the June 25 Gen Z anniversary protests in Nairobi.
In a statement issued late Sunday, June 28, the Social Justice Centres Working Group (SJCWG) confirmed that Lichuma was located at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), where he was receiving medical attention.
According to the organisation, Lichuma was in a critical condition when he was found and was unable to speak, raising concerns about what may have happened to him during the period he was missing.

SJCWG said his discovery does not diminish the need for a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
The group called for the identification and prosecution of those responsible for the alleged abduction, including any state officers who may have been involved.
The organisation also expressed gratitude to human rights defenders, members of the public, and the media for helping to publicise Lichuma’s disappearance and support efforts to locate him.
It added that its immediate priority is to ensure Lichuma receives urgent medical care, legal support, and adequate protection as he recovers.
Lichuma’s disappearance had sparked widespread concern among civil society groups and political leaders, who questioned the circumstances under which he went missing after participating in the June 25 demonstrations.
His case became one of several reported incidents involving activists and protesters in the aftermath of the nationwide commemorative marches.
Earlier on Sunday, former Chief Justice David Maraga had demanded that security agencies immediately produce Lichuma, saying authorities had a constitutional duty to protect the rights and safety of every Kenyan.
He condemned enforced disappearances and called for accountability from those responsible.
Human rights organisations have maintained that every reported case of disappearance or alleged abduction must be investigated independently and transparently, arguing that accountability is essential to uphold the rule of law and restore public confidence in the country’s security agencies.
