The police have nabbed several individuals in connection with a reported case of robbery with violence and gang rape in Butere.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, officers from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau and the Operation Action Team acted on solid intelligence to track down those linked to the incident.
According to reports, the events occurred on the night of January 28, 2026, when a group forced entry into a local shop under the cover of darkness.
Authorities indicated that the incident went beyond theft, describing it as “not just a robbery, it was an act of cruelty that left a lasting scar.”
The police revealed that the shopkeeper was attacked during the ordeal before the group fled.
The attackers are reported to have stolen goods valued at approximately Sh200,000, alongside an undisclosed amount of cash from the day’s sales.
This prompted the detectives to launch what they termed a swift and targeted manhunt aimed at identifying and apprehending those involved.
The operation led officers to Mabungo village, where two individuals were arrested.
Further investigations and questioning directed officers to Shirota village, where another person believed to be linked to the incident was apprehended.
The operation later extended to Sabatia Market, where detectives arrested an additional individual suspected to have been in possession of items believed to be connected to the robbery.
All suspects were taken into custody awaiting arraignment in court.
