In a pulsating AFCON 2025 Group F clash, Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon played out a 1-1 draw that showcased moments of brilliance, missed opportunities, and a tale of two Manchester United teammates — Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo.
The match, held at the Stade de Marrakech, began with high intensity as both sides looked to stamp their authority early. Cameroon dominated possession in the opening minutes, but it was Côte d’Ivoire who struck first.
In the 52nd minute, Amad Diallo produced a moment of magic, curling a sublime left-footed strike from outside the box into the top corner. It was a goal worthy of the occasion and a testament to Diallo’s growing influence on the continental stage.
Diallo’s performance was electric throughout — his movement, creativity, and composure on the ball consistently troubled the Cameroonian defense. He linked up well with Franck Kessié, and nearly assisted a second goal with a pinpoint cross that Vakoun Bayo failed to convert.
Cameroon responded swiftly. Just five minutes after Diallo’s opener, a deflected shot from Junior Tchamadeu ricocheted off Ivorian defender and into the net, leveling the score. The goal reignited Cameroon’s attack, but their finishing let them down.
One of the most disappointing performances came from Bryan Mbeumo, who struggled to make an impact. The Manchester United winger looked off pace, misplacing passes and failing to beat his marker. His decision-making in the final third was questionable.
Despite pressure from both sides, including a disallowed goal for Kessié and a near miss from Danny Namaso, the match ended 1-1 — a fair result given the balance of play.
With this draw, both teams remain in contention for the knockout stages. But for Côte d’Ivoire, the night belonged to Amad Diallo, whose star continues to rise. If his form holds, he could be the key to another deep tournament run for the Elephants.
