Those injured in the accident were rushed to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.

The latest incident comes days after a deadly crash along the Eldoret–Webuye Highway that claimed eight lives and left several others seriously injured.

The accident occurred on Tuesday night, December 23, near Mukhonje trading centre in Lugari, Kakamega County.

Police said a 14-seater matatu travelling from Eldoret lost control at high speed and crashed into the rear of a stationary trailer that had reportedly broken down while ferrying fertilizer.

Seven passengers died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries while being taken to hospital.

Seven other passengers were seriously injured and rushed to nearby health facilities. Authorities said the trailer driver fled the scene, and investigations are ongoing.
