Oburu Oginga Vows to Remain Steadfast as ODM Leader

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Oburu Oginga has reaffirmed his determination to remain firmly at the helm of the party.

Speaking on Saturday, December 27, in Suna East, Migori County, Oburu dismissed speculation about his health and longevity, emphasizing that he has no plans of stepping down.

The Siaya Senator highlighted that he is the same age as United States President Donald Trump, underscoring his ability to continue serving actively despite his years.

“I am not going to be shaken; I will sit squarely in that seat of the ODM party leader. Anybody who thinks that Oburu Oginga is about to die soon is seriously mistaken. I am the same age as Donald Trump of America. Trump is 82 years old, like me,” said Oburu.

The ODM leader stated that the party will continue to participate in the broad-based government and has no plans to return to the opposition.

He described the current arrangement, initiated by Raila Odinga, as the best path forward for the party and its supporters.

Looking ahead to 2027, he emphasized that ODM intends to ensure its continued presence in government rather than opposition.

The comments come amid recent speculation about his health.

In November, he traveled abroad for a short break, which his family said was intended for rest and rejuvenation following the demanding events of his late brother Raila Odinga’s funeral and the ODM@20 celebrations in Mombasa.

He returned to the country after the passing of his sister, Beryl Achieng Odinga.

Oburu assumed leadership of ODM following Raila Odinga’s death on October 15.

He initially took on the role as acting party leader and was confirmed by the ODM National Governing Council (NGC) on November 13 during a meeting in Mombasa.
