Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has responded to Pastor Ng’ang’a, who criticized his decision to publicize on social media the confrontation he had with his daughter’s husband, who allegedly assaulted the politician’s daughter.
In a video posted on November 24, 2025, Sonko defended his actions, explaining that he shared the incident to raise awareness and sensitize other women experiencing similar cases of gender-based violence.
The issue was first addressed by Pastor Ng’ang’a during a televised church service on November 23, 2025.

The preacher criticized Sonko for taking the matter public, arguing that it could have lasting negative effects on the children involved and suggesting that the former governor should have resolved the situation privately.
Ng’ang’a opposed the public disclosure, despite Sonko’s claims that he is providing support for his daughter’s family and funding the education of the children.
Pastor Ng’ang’a said the incident is “destroying the marriage system,” suggesting that it could instill fear and negatively impact the daughter’s marital life.
In response, Sonko defended his decision to go public, saying he felt compelled to stand up for his daughter.
He noted that he had remained silent in the past when his daughters faced similar instances of physical abuse.
Sonko further emphasized that gender-based violence should never be ignored and encouraged Kenyans experiencing such abuse to speak out.
Meanwhile, Pastor Ng’ang’a advised the husband’s parents to resolve the matter privately with Sonko’s daughter.
