Ex-CJ David Maraga Discloses His Security has been Withdrawn

Former Chief Justice David Maraga has recently announced that the state has withdrawn his security.

In a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja and Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen,  the ex-CJ revealed that his security was withdrawn on June 26.

According to Maraga in the letter, the officers were directed to report back to their stations.

Maraga went on to add that he was not consulted when the state was undertaking the withdrawals.

He therefore called on the state to reinstate his security as he is entitled to protection given his service as a Chief Justice.

The former CJ further questioned whether the withdrawals were being done owing to his recent criticism of the police service.

Maraga’s security withdrawal comes hours after attending the June 25th protest.

Notably, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino also faced the same fate.

In a statement issued on Thursday, June 26, Babu alleged that his security was withdrawn following his decision to join Kenyans protesting in Nairobi CBD on Wednesday, June 25.

According to Babu, the withdrawal of his security was an attack on democracy and a sign of a government that fears accountability.

The lawmaker went on to note that he won’t be intimidated by the state and will remain demanding justice for Kenyans.
