Authorities Detain 24 Over Vandalism in Wednesday Demonstrations

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have nabbed over 20 suspects in connection with the torching of the Kikuyu Law Courts.

In a statement on Friday, June 27, 2025, DCI disclosed the arrests were made after chaos that was witnessed during the June 25 demonstrations.

Besides setting the court on fire, the suspects were also linked to the destruction of other valuable property such as vehicles, tractors and tuktuks.

Reports indicate that the suspects were arraigned before the Chief Magistrate’s Court at the Ruiru Law Courts, where an order was issued for them to be detained for 14 days in order to complete investigations.

According to reports, during the June 25 protests, the suspected goons broke into the Kikuyu Law Courts and set it on fire as well as vandalising the judicial city.

The goons also went to the Deputy County Commissioner’s (DCC) office, which was also set on fire.

The demonstrators also broke into the offices, which were unfortunately set on fire.

The incident resulted in the complete closure of the court to facilitate investigations as well as renovations.
